Sa Dragonera
The island of sa Dragonera is the sixth largest of the Balearic archipelago. With a very recognizable profile: it looks like a dragon –hence many people think, erroneously, that it owes its name to its silhouette–, the island has remained unspoiled, despite the real estate developments that take place there have projected and that only popular pressure has managed to avoid.
Since 1995, the island has been a Natural Park where no one lives but it can be visited. Thus, when the weather is good, the visitor can travel there thanks to the "Margarita", a motorized llaüt (typical Balearic fishing boat) that sets sail from Sant Elm.
Once on the island, inhabited by numerous lizards – another fact that has created a false myth about the origin of the name, which seems to come from a toponym related to its Cova de la Font –, the traveller will be able to tour- the one from top to bottom, with a must visit to its three iconic lighthouses.
