Easter
Since the conquest of the island by King Jaume I, in the 13th century, the Catholic religion has played a very important role on the island and has structured both the order and the social relations that have developed there . Without going any further, until just over a century ago, being a low-class person - theoretically a descendant of Jewish families converted to Christianity - was frowned upon and, even, lived with shame by those of their status.
It is not surprising, then, that religious folklore was very present among the inhabitants of the island and that the traditions linked to it are still well rooted. This is the case of Holy Week and its processions, images and steps, a spectacle still pleasing to see.
In addition, this ephemeris is usually accompanied by the opening of many of the island's restaurants and the preparation of delicious foods typical of those dates: crespells, robiols and, especially, panades.
